Time To Restyle My Diamond Earrings. What Should I Make?

Diamond earrings set in yellow gold

These diamond earrings have been in my jewelry box for a few years now. I did enjoy wearing them, for a long time.  My style has changed. I haven’t worn them in ages.  The diamonds are nice and sparkly;  it’s a shame to have them sit unused. It’s time for them to see the light of day!

I want to use the diamonds to make something else that I will want to wear.  There are 14 round diamonds.   This gives me a good number to work with. All I need to do is figure out what kind of a custom jewelry piece I want to make with them. And, since I’m here at Plante Jewelers, I have a lot of inspiration!

 Diamond Earrings?

I wear earrings every day.  Seven diamonds per ear could make a pair of diamond cluster earrings. I like a leverback earring, and the clusters could sit just below my earlobes.  Hmmm.  White gold would change the look, but yellow gold is nice too. Would I want the clusters to be bezel-set and have a clean, simple look, or would I go for more vintage-style earring details?  Multiple diamonds combine well with decorative features like a milgrain border, or filigree details, to give an antique look.

The diamonds could be arranged as haloes around two colored gemstones for a contemporary-style pair of studs, or dangle-style earrings.  I don’t happen to have any colored gemstones of my own, but I know where I can get some!

Diamond Ring?

Then again, 14 diamonds.  A ring comes to mind. But I already have a diamond anniversary band, so that‘s out.  Maybe a halo of 14 diamonds around a center gemstone? Would the center be a diamond, or a colored gem like a beautiful pink spinel or a gorgeous blue sapphire?  Do I really want a halo, or would an asymmetrical design be more interesting?

 Diamond Bracelet?

I could also create a diamond bracelet. I think I’d like a link-style bracelet,  rather than a cuff or bangle.  The diamonds could be set into bezel settings, with interesting links in between. That’s a pretty look.  Rose gold would be even prettier.  I know there are many options, from having my diamonds set into a mounting from a manufacturer, to having a fully custom-made bracelet.

Once I start to come up with redesign ideas, it can be overwhelming!  And I haven’t even considered a custom pendant, or a diamonds-by-the-yard necklace!

I’m going to give this some thought.  I will keep you posted as to what happens next. In the meantime, do you have any suggestions for me?  What should I do with these 14 diamonds?
